Reportedly, back in February, Blockbuster, mega corporation of movie and game rentals, quietly approached the Circuit City big dogs about a buyout in which Blockbuster would purchase the whole of Circuit City for a sum of $1 billion. Apparently Blockbuster wants to do more than just video rentals now.
Circuit City hasn’t given them a reply and now Blockbuster is making it well known that it seeks to own the electronics retail chain.
This only two months after Microsoft bid for Yahoo!…

There haven’t been many times were something online makes me consider how cool all of this technological (not a word) stuff is.
Today, however, my jaw dropped and I rushed to my blog.
Immersive Media, an innovative digital video company, has developed the 360° video camera. That in itself is cool, but not jaw dropping. The camera uses technology that combines 11 video streams into a panoramic sphere.
Here’s the really cool part…
They have developed a Flash video player that allows you to control your degree of view WHILE the video plays. Automatically, I was impressed and skeptic. What if I miss the subject matter while I’m looking where I shouldn’t? But I quickly put that to rest as I was seeing everything happening in a way I’ve never dreamed before.
Now I can’t contain the excitement as I imagine the possibilities apart from web commerce. I can geek out about how cool it would be to watch a truly cinematic masterpiece in full 360° motion.
So yeah… Go to the website. Watch the videoes… well watch and interact… while you’re watching. Visit the company’s website to see more.
Yes. I geeked out. |

Online video is nothing new here in early 2008. Everyone that isn’t under the proverbial rock knows about You Tube. It’s easy to find entertainment online, but how many times can you watch a guy dance through the decades?
A podcast I frequent had a special interview with writer/director of a hugely popular webisode series called The Guild. The sitcom is about a group of people who play an online game together and end up meeting in real life. Hillarity ensues as stereotipical characters begin butting heads.
The main reason I’m blogging about the show, though, is that it is one of the most professionally crafted online shows available for free. So far there are seven episodes, each around 5 minutes in length.
NOTE: The show includes strong language and content not suitable for minors. |

The Wii in Japan has been updated with a TV guide channel. Wii owners can browse TV schedules, recommend TV shows to friends, and even see other’s recommended shows. The neatest thing is the ability to use the Wii-mote as a universal remote using a combination of movements and buttons in conjunction with the sensor bar.
No word if this is coming to the States though. If you enjoy reading Japanese, then here’s Nintendo’s official page.

The ESA has updated it’s top ten statistics about gamers. Some are very surprising. Most are encouraging to the whole “video games is teh devil” rant. The ones that stand out the most are:
Average age of game players is 33.
85% of all games sold in the US were rated E (for everyone), T (for teens) or E10+ (everyone 10 and up).
86% of all gamers below the age of 18 say they get their parents permission before buying any video game. |

Just found a new internet jewel and it happens to be a flash-based game. 3D Logic II is one of those games you fall in love with the instant you figure out what the heck is going on. The premise is you solve a 3D cube by connecting like-colored blocks. Like every good puzzle game, playing is easy, but mastering is hard. Give it a try. |

This is for the little ones.
The New York Zoos and Aquarium group has posted a fun little website for the youngsters to play with while learning about different animal parts while piquing curious minds. Build Your Wild Self lets your child, hopefully supervised, enjoy making a unique identity complete with lion feet, octopus arms or even peacock feathers. And when they’re all done, they can print their masterpiece or set it as a desktop wallpaper.
